Clockwork Cycles
We promise to make your bike run like clockwork again.
Clockwork Cycles came about to address the need for the increase of bicycle repairs since the start of the national lockdown in April. Over many years, I have repaired and maintained countless bicycles for myself, family and friends. At the start of lockdown the waiting list for new bicycles was huge and second hand bicycles became very expensive. I finally updated my 28 year old bright pink Kona Hahanna (workhorse) by putting together a hybrid Chris Boardman from frame and parts.
This was a very rewarding project, showing me that my knowledge and skill working on all aspects of bike mechanics was undiminished and my enthusiasm for all things bike was renewed. I had been asked by many friends, relatives and acquaintances to help them get their bikes serviced and roadworthy again as new bikes were impossible to get.
In discussions with a friend and colleague (who was also an experienced bike mechanic and cyclist), we decided to open Clockwork Cycles to make our services available to the community at large, and thus Clockwork Cycles was born.
We had been up and running for only a couple of days before we became aware of a government scheme offering £50 fix-your-bike vouchers. With a bit of effort, we managed to register ourselves on the government scheme, and this helped to kickstart our services on the government Fix Your Bike Scheme
After that, we became aware of a national initiative to get people cycling rather than using public transport, which was primarily reserved for front-line workers, was fuelled by a registered charity called Cycling UK.
Cycling UK were/are funded by "The Ministry of Transport" , they called their initiative "The Big Bike Revival". A plan for local bicycle repair shops all over the UK to set up free pop-up bicycle repair clinic repairing simple faults and spending 20 to 30 minutes per bicycle. We are proud to say that we have been successfully delivering a pop-up bicycle repair service in Hounslow and Richmond Boroughs during 2020/2021/2022.
